BANGKOK, 26 Dec 2013 – A public prosecutor says the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has the authority to file a petition to revoke bails of the 9 core members of the People’s Alliance Democracy (PAD).
Mr. Nantasak Phunsuk, Spokesperson of the Office of the Attorney General, explained that the petition can be made as the DSI investigators remain involved in the case despite the fact that the case is currently under the Office of the Attorney General’s procedure. However, he said that whether or not the petition would be accepted depends on the Criminal Court’s decision.
The DSI yesterday announced that this afternoon it would file for nullification of the bails granted to the 9 individuals, saying that there is evidence proving that the nine have violated their bail conditions by joining the current anti-government protests in the capital.
One of the defendants, Mr. Somkiat Pongpaibul, told the media that his team is discussing with its lawyer, Miss Puangthip Boonsanong, whether they would object the DSI’s request.
