BANGKOK, Thailand – Protesters petitioned the Prime Minister to halt the draft Entertainment Complex Act, which would legalize integrated entertainment complexes including casinos.
The group, led by Jatuporn Prompan, cited concerns over social impact, arguing the policy prioritizes casinos over economic well-being.
The bill outlines complexes containing hotels, malls, theatres, meeting venues, and casinos.
Protesters claimed casino operations in developing countries often lead to illicit activities and fail to improve citizens’ lives.
They fear the bill conceals hidden motives and potential conflicts of interest, demanding an immediate halt to casino and online gambling policies.
The petition was received by Somkid Chuakong, Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs. (TNA)
