SONGKHLA, 5 February 2015 – A public forum will be held in Songkhla province before the second phase of PTT’s offshore drilling begins.

Deputy Songkhla Governor Chaiwat Sirinupong said the objective of the forum is to inform stakeholders of the project and the extent of its environmental impact. People will also get to participate and voice their concerns.

The plan has been described in the meeting attended by government officials from the provincial energy, fishery and disaster prevention sectors as well as those from the broadcasting and public health units.

The project, dubbed ‘Bong Kot under Thai Gulf’, is located 183 kilometers off the shore of Songkhla. The drilling is expected to begin in the 4th quarter of next year. The natural gas produced in this area could also help maintain the amount of natural gas reserve.
