BANGKOK, 23 April 2014 – The Public Health Minister has condemned the grenade attack on the house of Permanent Secretary for Public Health Dr. Narong Sahametapat.

Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong yesterday condemned the M79 grenade attack on Dr. Narong’s house on Sunday night, saying it was wrong for whoever used violence against people who did not share the same view. The minister also urged all ministry officials not to instigate violence or bring the monarchy into the conflict, adding that he was concerned about everyone’s safety.

He also assured that no action would be taken against the permanent secretary for not taking part in the meeting of permanent secretaries hosted by the Center for Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) last week.

Meanwhile, more than 2,000 health officials gathered at the ministry to give moral support to Dr. Narong as well as to declare their stance against all forms of violence.

Dr. Narong’s home in Chaeng Wattana was attacked by an M79 grenade on Sunday. The explosion damaged the fence and a car. Fortunately, no one was injured.
