BANGKOK, 14 June 2015 – The Ministry of Public Health has planned to seek cooperation from different agencies in the elimination of mosquito as part of the dengue fever prevention campaign.
The Ministry of Public Health is scheduled to sign on Monday (Jun 15) cooperation agreements with seven other ministries namely Interior, Education, Natural Resources and Environment, Tourism and Sports, Industry, Culture and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to ensure effective malaria prevention such as constant spraying of pesticides on mosquito breeding ground. The Southeast Asian nations have designated June 15 as ASEAN Dengue Day to raise awareness of the viral disease.
The program is intended to stem the spread of the mosquito-borne disease. Infection cases are particularly high during the rainy season as the weather condition is conducive to reproduction of mosquitoes. Since January, the dengue virus has sickened over 12,000 people, 11 of whom died. Without proper prevention, infection cases could exceed 70,000 this year.
Infected people usually exhibit such symptoms as sudden fever, headaches, nausea, vomiting, skin rash and easy bruising. There has been no specific medicine for the treatment of dengue fever. Aside from supportive medical care, effective ways to regain immunity included enough rest and drinking much water. In case of fever, patients may take paracetamol. Aspirin may worsen bleeding.
