BANGKOK, Thailand – The Public Pawnshop Office has launched a special program to ease financial burdens during the year-end festive season. The initiative provides an interest-free period for low-value pawn tickets, aiming to support low-income individuals with accessible financial resources and reduced expenses during this critical time.
Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, announced that clients who pawn items with a principal amount not exceeding 5,000 baht will receive a one-month interest-free period per pawn ticket. This applies to transactions made between December this year and February next year. The program, which began on December 1st, will run until the end of February.
Interested individuals can contact the Public Pawnshop Office at 02-281-5888 or visit any branch for more information.
The minister emphasized that the Public Pawnshop Office operates under the Department of Social Development and Welfare within the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. Its mission is to assist low-income individuals facing urgent financial challenges. By offering low-interest pawn services, the office helps protect borrowers from excessive interest rates or fees that may exceed the legal limits set by the Pawnbrokers Act. (NNT)
