BANGKOK, Thailand – Authorities have warned the public about online scams involving fraudulent emails impersonating the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) to solicit money and personal information. The scams falsely claim that MDES is issuing casino licenses and requesting tax payments or donations on behalf of the government. Businesses and individuals are urged to exercise caution and avoid interacting with these deceptive messages.

One scheme involves scammers claiming that MDES is granting licenses for legal casino operations in Thailand, requiring victims to pay a registration fee and a security deposit of 47,074 baht. Authorities have confirmed that MDES has no jurisdiction to issue casino licenses, making the offer entirely fraudulent.

In another scam, fraudsters have sent emails using the MDES emblem, falsely requesting tax payments and donations for government funds. These messages impersonate ministry officials in an attempt to steal money and personal details, putting recipients at risk of financial loss and identity theft.

The ministry has stated that legal action will be taken against those responsible for spreading false information and carrying out online fraud. Investigators are working to identify the sources of these scams and dismantle networks exploiting digital platforms.

Officials urge the public to stay alert by avoiding suspicious links, verifying information before making payments, and reporting scams to the MDES 1441 hotline. (NNT)
