Brave efforts to capture a python take a terrifying turn as a volunteer collapses from suffocation.

BANGKOK, Thailand – A volunteer from the Civil Defense Volunteer Corps lost consciousness after being constricted by a 4-meter-long python while attempting to capture it in Phasi Charoen district. The snake had entered a resident’s home and attacked a cat.

The incident occurred late at night at a two-story wooden house. The victim, identified as Charan, 68, was attempting to catch the python when it wrapped around his neck, causing him to faint. Fellow volunteers immediately performed CPR before emergency responders from Siriraj Hospital arrived and transported him for further medical attention.

A resident of the house explained that they had called the volunteer for help after spotting the python inside. Initially, the volunteer seemed to have control of the situation, but as he held the snake’s head, its tail wrapped around his hand and then tightened around his neck. Despite his efforts to maintain his grip, he eventually lost consciousness. The resident’s sister, who was assisting with a flashlight, saw him staggering and asked if he was okay before witnessing the snake fully constrict him. She, being unafraid of snakes, quickly intervened to loosen its grip. As he passed out, the snake began to release him, allowing others to step in and help.

Upon inspection, the household was found to have seven cats, but only four remained. Two were missing, and one black cat had been fatally constricted by the python. The homeowner mentioned having previously seen two pythons, though one managed to escape. The captured python was later handed over to the Thonburi Fire Station for further handling. (TNA)
