BANGKOK, Thailand – Ramathibodi Hospital in Bangkok is partly operating following a fire on Tuesday night as its main building (Building 1) will be closed for 48 hours for safety inspections.

The fire broke out on the second floor of the nine-story building at approximately 7:20 PM on March 11, originating in the pathology department. Firefighters quickly responded, evacuating patients from the upper floors and containing the blaze within 20 minutes. There were no injuries or fatalities.


Following the fire at the Building 1, the hospital announced to close this building for 48 hours to conduct a thorough safety assessment. Outpatient services and surgeries in that building are suspended during this time.

Patients requiring medical records, blood donations, or blood tests are being directed to the Somdech Phra Debaratana Building within the hospital complex. Hospital staff are providing on-site information and assistance to patients and visitors.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. (TNA)
