RANONG, 26 May 2015 – Delegates from Thailand and Myanmar convened in a meeting today regarding the suppression of human trafficking activities along the border of both nations.
This morning, representatives of Thailand’s Ranong Province and Myanmar’s Kawthaung Town convened in the meeting of the Border Area Anti Human Trafficking Cooperation Center at the Heritage Grand Convention in Ranong Province of Thailand. The meeting was attended by the Police Chief of Kawthaung, Lt Col Tin Oo, the Rayong Provincial Social Development and Human Security Official, Supaporn Nanakhon, and officials from related agencies.
The meeting of the Border Area Anti Human Trafficking Cooperation Center aims increase information exchange on border area operations and experiences between both nations’ officials to strengthen the human trafficking suppression and prevention efforts in the border areas.
The Thailand-Myanmar Border Area Anti Human Trafficking Cooperation Center was established in August 2012, after an increased awareness that human trafficking activities are a violation of basic human rights, and are considered international crime with severe punishments.
The human trafficking activities have a strong correlation with illegal migration along the national border, which is an issue that will require multinational efforts to successfully eradicate.
