Rare fish go on display in Yala

YALA, 3 June 2015 – Yala Provincial Fisheries Office is putting rare and beautiful fish on display, as part of the anniversary celebration of the city pillar shrine.

More than 40 species of rare and exotic fish are currently showcased at Yala City Hall, where the city pillar shrine celebration and Yala Red Cross fair are taking place. The exhibition has captured the interest of a large number of event-goers daily.

Yala Provincial Fisheries Office intends to use the fish exhibition to raise awareness for the marine environment and spark interest in commercial aquaculture.

Highlights include the fish spa and the display of river carps, Yala’s local fish. Known locally as Kelah, the fish is an endangered species. Experts are attempting save the species and advocate their consumption due to their high market value.
