BANGKOK, 16 September 2015 – The deputy prime minister in charge of security believes that the deadly explosion in Ratchaprasong area in August could be the work of a group of human traffickers.
Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon, who is also the Defence Minister, said that he has not received any report about Malaysia’s arrest of some suspects in the Ratchaprasong bombing yet. Gen. Prawit said that the police officers will need to verify such a development first.
He added that, personally, he believes the blast involved the human-trafficking ring which has been operating for a long time.
The DPM explained that the government’s clampdown on such an operation has caused the group some damages and angered the traffickers.
He went on to say that all security units have been instructed to step up the surveillance at all key locations across Thailand, particularly tourist locations both in Bangkok and other provinces to prevent future losses.
