People in the eastern province of Rayong resumed their normal life, as well as tourism activities while 274 local schools have reopened after an infected Egyptian soldier had triggered a COVID-19 scare in the province.

In the morning parents sent their children to school in heavy rain. The COVID-19 scare caused 274 local schools to close last week.
Nopadol Disa-nguan, director of Wat Koh Kloy school, said 53% of 201 students were at the school today when heavy rain lasted for several hours and blocked students’ arrival.
Rayong mayor Worawit Supachokchai said Rayong people resumed their normal life as no one tested positive for COVID-19 a week after the visit of the infected Egyptian soldier.
Rayong people responded well to the COVID-19 concern and proved to value disease control including the temporary school closure, he said. COVID-19 tests were available and the Rayong provincial council chairman promised to give 100,000 baht to each infected local resident. That revived confidence among Rayong people, Mr Worawit said.
However, he urged people to wear face masks, regularly wash hands and observe social distancing. He said Rayong people already had confidence but he was worried that people elsewhere were still reluctant to visit Rayong. (TNA)
