Surin – The Zoological Park Organization under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King organized a reforestation event with the aim of conserving elephants and the environment in Surin Province.
The ceremony was held at Phu Din forest by representatives of the Elephant Kingdom of Surin Province. Present at the event were Deputy Director of the Zoological Park Organization Suriya Saengpong, the Surin Vice Governor, the Deputy Governor Corporate Social Affairs of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, community leaders and local and foreign tourists. The ceremony featured a parade of 30 elephants starring a well-known elephant, Plai Thong Bai, and a religious rite. The participants also took the opportunity to feed the elephants, before planting trees.
The reforestation event was part of a campaign to conserve elephants in line with the wishes of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign who instructed the Zoological Park Organization to save and improve the quality of life of Thai elephants, the national symbol of the Kingdom of Thailand.
