BANGKOK, Thailand – The Flood, Storm, and Landslide Disaster Relief Operations Center has advised residents who have lost important documents in recent flooding to contact local administrative organizations to obtain a “Disaster Victim Certification.” This certification will help in replacing important documents such as ID cards and land titles and is required to receive compensation. Meanwhile, flood recovery efforts in Chiang Rai have reached 97% completion, while Lamphun province continues to drain water, with officials expecting the area to be fully dry within five days.

Jirayu Huangsap, spokesperson for the center, provided updates on the progress in Chiang Rai, where clean-up operations are nearly complete, with a few households still awaiting assistance in the capital district and Mae Sai. In Lamphun, 60% of floodwaters have been drained, and work is underway to treat stagnant water using bio-fermented agents. Officials are clearing water channels and installing pumps to speed up drainage.

In Chiang Mai, flood victims are set to receive financial compensation, with 1,257 households in Fang district and 443 in San Sai district having completed the necessary paperwork. A total of over 15 million baht in compensation will be distributed following verification by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).

Jirayu reported that several southern provinces have already seen heavy rainfall, with some areas recording over 400 mm. The center has directed relevant agencies to prepare for potential flooding and urge residents in high-risk areas to stay alert and ready for possible evacuations. (NNT)
