SAMUT PRAKAN, 8 July 2014  – Deputy Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) Suthep Noipairoj confirms that water pumping facilities in Samut Prakan province have been well-maintained and are ready for duty this rainy season.

Mr Suthep, accompanied by a team of RID officials, paid a visit to the Chonlahan Phichit water pumping station located in Bang Bo district of Samut Prakan in a bid to follow up on the facility’s preparedness for flood drainage operations. During the inspection, the facility was found to be fully functional and in good condition.

The pumping station serves parts of Bangkok as well as Samut Prakan and Chachoengsao provinces and is expected to be useful in the upcoming flood prevention effort this year.

Afterwards, Mr Suthep proceeded to another water pumping station adjacent to Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Samut Prakan’s Bang Phli district. The station is responsible for flood drainage in the perimeter of the country’s main airport and is equipped with cutting-edge technology for high pumping capacity.

Officials from the RID and related local agencies are joining forces in clearing out garbage and weeds in waterways leading to the pumping station in order to facilitate the discharge of water.
