BANGKOK, 12 August 2015 – The Ministry of Education is planning to propose to cabinet, a salary increase for civil servants who work as educators in universities.
The ministry recently held talks with relevant agencies on setting aside budget to raise salaries for government officials in higher-level educational institutes.
In 2011, the cabinet approved a proposal to give an 8-percent rise to state educators who teach basic education. Civil servants in educational institutions were not part of the group eligible for the salary increase. Of all the civil servants missing out on the rise, around 20,000 teach at the university level.
The total budget for the proposed increase in salaries is estimated at 2.33 billion baht. The proposal has been pending for four years.
The ministry has made known that once other details including pensions and benefits of civil servants are finalized, the matter will be discussed again at the end of August before being forwarded to the cabinet for consideration.
