PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, Sept 9 – Rubber growers in 16 southern provinces reiterated their strong determination to stage a rally on Saturday to protest against the government’s refusal to pledge rubber price at Bt95 per kilogramme.
Santad Dejketd, a farmer leader in Prachuap Khiri Khan, said rubber growers agreed that they would ask for a final guaranteed price at Bt95 per kilo, an increase from the Bt90 per kilo as given by the government.
He also called on the authorities to urgently find the person responsible for setting two media vehicles afire early Saturday morning, adding that the incident took place after protesters had dispersed from the demonstration site.
Tanet Sunthornsuk, Prachuap Khiri Khan police commander, said police would soon issue arrest warrants from those instigating unrest during the growers’ demonstration last Thursday, adding that police had video clips of the suspects.
He said four companies of anti-riot police have been deployed on Petchkasem Road at Ban Thammarat in Bang Sapan district to maintain public order and to be ready for a new round of demonstrations on Saturday.
