Bangkok – Deputy Government Spokesman Lt Gen Werachon Sukondhapatipak dismissed the circulating rumors that the government would transfer a sum of three thousand baht in cash to welfare card holders via Government Savings Bank (GSB), saying it was just misleading information shared on social media.
The rumors have caused many people to open their new savings account with the GSB, which is currently offering welfare card holders and persons aged 65 years and older to open savings accounts and ATM cards with the bank without the issuing fee, annual fee or account maintaining fee.
He said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered government agencies, the GSB, and local leaders to clarify the situation with villagers to prevent any more trouble.
“The prime minister has urged the public to have such circulated news verified with government officials or accountable organizations to prevent them from being victims of fraudulent schemes and criminals,” he said.
