SURAT THANI, Thailand – A Russian man was arrested after recklessly driving a yellow supercar and revving the engine loudly, disturbing residents on Koh Samui and challenging local police. The 30-year-old, identified as Mr. Aleksandr Sharygo, was fined 5,000 baht for dangerous driving and other violations. He had only held his driver’s license for two months.
The incident came to light after a local social media group reported sightings of a yellow sports car being driven erratically in the Koh Samui area, causing alarm among other drivers. Pol. Col. Denduang Thongsrisuk, the chief of Bo Phut Police Station, ordered officers to track down the car, which was eventually found parked outside a villa. The vehicle, a yellow Nissan with Ang Thong license plates, matched the description provided by witnesses.
Police apprehended Mr. Sharygo, who admitted to owning the vehicle and presented proper documentation. A thorough check revealed that the car’s color had been changed, and modifications had been made, though all paperwork was legal. Mr. Sharygo cooperated with authorities, agreeing to pay the fine under the charges of reckless driving, failing to display a license plate, and not registering the vehicle’s color change.
Following his apology, Mr. Sharygo promised to make the necessary legal adjustments to the vehicle and pledged not to engage in further dangerous driving.
Pol. Col. Denduang stated that the vehicle is being held pending further investigation by the Department of Land Transport. Police are also working with immigration officials to verify Mr. Sharygo’s work and travel history, to see if he is involved in any other criminal activity. Authorities thanked the public for providing the crucial tip-off that led to the arrest.
Further reports revealed that Mr. Sharygo had only obtained his driver’s license on July 23, 2024, from the Surat Thani 2 Transport Office (Koh Samui branch), and it remains valid until July 23, 2026. (TNA)
