BANGKOK, Thailand – Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (Public Organization), or SACIT is set to host “Crafts Bangkok 2024,” showcasing more than 400 stores featuring exquisite traditional and contemporary crafts from Thai artisans. The event aims to generate over 150 million Baht in revenue and will take place from August 24 to 28 at Halls 98-99, BITEC Bangna.
Acting Director of SACIT, Mrs. Phanwilas Paepuang, announced that this year’s “Crafts Bangkok 2024” marks the 7th edition of the event, establishing itself as the largest and most anticipated arts and crafts exhibition of the year. The fair gathers a diverse range of artisanal crafts, catering to craft enthusiasts of all generations, both domestically and internationally, with over 400 stores to explore. The event will feature products from national artisan masters, SACIT members, designers, and artists. This initiative is expected to stimulate the economy, support job creation, and provide substantial income for craft creators, with projected earnings of no less than 150 million Baht and an estimated 35,000 attendees.
This year’s event is themed “Sustainable Arts and Crafts,” emphasizing the integration of nature, craftsmanship, and innovation towards sustainability. SACIT recognizes sustainability as a crucial aspect of Thai craftsmanship, focusing on raising awareness of the value of Thai crafts to ensure they are preserved as a national heritage. Simultaneously, the event aims to create sustainable livelihoods for artisans by promoting sales and income, thus fostering long-term careers. Additionally, the theme highlights environmental sustainability, as traditional crafts have minimal ecological impact and are produced using natural processes that do not contribute to pollution or global warming.
**Highlights of “Crafts Bangkok 2024” Include Five Main Zones:**
- Identity of Siam: Featuring over 100 stores showcasing the unique identity of Thailand, including works from Galathong, Sukkhee Handicrafts, Varni Craft, and more.
- Design/Lifestyle: Showcasing lifestyle-oriented products by brands like PONK SMITHI , Nimmind jewelry & Object ,PLAY, Stories of Silver, Porana, Agape handicraft, TOS TODESIRE FLOW, Craftroom, HarmoniqueAsia, New crafters Zone , Heritage-Authentic
- New Crafters Zone is dedicated to emerging artisans, featuring brands such as Panyana, KARA, Krung Ngern Sukhothai, Oab, Tiger Project, CATCHAWA, DaranaKee, KORKOK, KaHemp, Masa Handcraft, and more. This zone also includes educational institutions presenting craft products created by the new generation from 10 different institutions. These products reflect the application of traditional knowledge, enhanced with innovative ideas, offering the opportunity to test the market and expand commercial possibilities.
- Natural-Eco-Product-BCG Zone features natural and environmentally friendly products based on the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economic model, emphasizing sustainability and efficient use of resources for environmental preservation. Featured brands include Lanna Handicraft, Krajood Ban Khok Trang, Sis Crafts, Krajoodbanrao Original, Rough and Heritage, ReDeco, and Ban Kradat Suay Beautiful Quilling.
- Heritage-Authentic: Highlighting cultural heritage with brands like Her Hemp, Sané Batik, and more.
The event will also feature products from The Support Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand., the Jai Thai Project, Chulabhorn Research Institute., and Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage. Additionally, there will be an exhibition zone, “Crafts Society,” showcasing works from both Thai and international artists, including innovative pieces by renowned Thai designers like Korakot Aromdee and Pirada Seneewong Na Ayutthaya.
Additionally, the Crafts Bangkok 2024 event, organized by SACIT, recognizes the popularity of the Workshop Zone among craft enthusiasts. This zone not only provides fun and engaging activities for participants but also serves as an excellent platform for passing on traditional craft knowledge. It offers hands-on experiences, allowing those interested to learn the processes of creating artisanal crafts and to try making their own unique pieces. This experience is expected to deepen participants’ appreciation and pride in Thailand’s rich craft heritage.
This year, the event will feature more than 20 workshops, with at least four activities each day. Carefully selected crafts that are sure to delight attendees will be showcased, and participants will also enjoy performances by well-known artists every day, including Punch Worakarn, the band Rooftop, Pete Pol, and Ice Sarunyu.
