SAMUT PRAKARN, 11 February 2015 – Samut Prakarn province has adopted tougher measures against human trafficking in the fishery industry ahead of the ASEAN Economic Community.

Officials from the provincial Departments of Labor and Fisheries have reiterated to fishing boat operators to have their migrant workers undergo labor registration.

The move is aimed at eliminating human trafficking from the industry and improving the country’s image. Migrant workers will be entitled to employment benefits, once they have registered with the Ministry of Labor.

Employers are encouraged to bring migrant workers along with their dependents to declare their country of origin at the Ministry of Labor’s Proof of Nationality Workers Service in Prapadaeng district by the end of March.
