BANGKOK, 10 June 2013 The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) has met with Muslim religious leaders ahead of the third round of talks between the government and the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) scheduled for June 13th.

Pol Col Thawee Sodsong, secretary-general of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC), has traveled to the South to meet with religious leaders and members of local Islamic committees in 13 districts numbering over 700. The secretary-general listened to the ideas and suggestions of the community leaders on the BRN proposals . After the discussion, Pol Col Thawee said the Muslim leaders were worried about the agreements as they urged the Thai government to be highly cautious when dealing with the BRN insurgent group. The leaders also said they would give their full support to the government in solving insurgency in the deep South.

Meanwhile, National Security Council Secretary General Paradorn Pattanathabutr revealed after having talked with locals in the South that most of the southern residents do not agree with the BRN’s proposals that require the government to retract the arrest warrants issued to the insurgents. He added that villagers wanted the perpetrators to take responsibility for their actions.
