Bangkok – A planned demonstration in the capital this Tuesday, May 22, will be staged amid tight security to ensure public safety.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan noted that security measures will be put in place ahead of and during the march by a pro-election activist group. Gen Prawit expects the demonstration to be short and peaceful.
In the meantime, Secretary General of the National Security Council (NSC) Gen Wallop Raksanoh said today that people have the right to express themselves, but they must do it within the confines of the law while respecting the rights of others. He also called on the activist group to be respectful and not to cause public disturbances.
The NSC chief also warned security units and demonstrators about a third party looking to instigate violence, asserting that the country should build and maintain a peaceful atmosphere ahead of next year’s election.
