TAK, 3 June 2014 – Tak provincial authorities have busted a large human trafficking ring at a community near the Mae Sot Municipality area. A total of 163 alien workers have been taken into custody.

Military and police officers yesterday surrounded the Song Kwae community within the Mae Sot Municipality District to shut down a human trafficking gang, which had been smuggling numerous alien workers past an immigration checkpoint in the province. Together, they found a total of 163 alien workers.

Investigations reveal that the area has been a hideout for illegal workers and an operation base for a large human trafficking gang. Upon learning that, both soldiers and police quickly moved in to bust the operations.

According to Colonel Terdsak Ngamsanong, the superintendent of the 4th Infantry Regiment, the operation has been carried out to ‘clean up’ the community in order for it to be free from illegal activities. As Mae Sot is an area where many industrial factories are located, it is important that all the immigrant workers have legal work permits.
