YALA, OCT 29 – Security has been tightened across Yala province in Thailand’s violence-plagued deep South as a new school semester is about to open on November 1.

Yala Deputy Governor Samart Waradisai on Tuesday briefed administrators of 53 schools in Yala’s Raman district as well as those under supervision of Yala Primary Educational Service Area Office 1, security teams and agencies concerned on measures to reduce the number of losses and incidents.

Gov Samart said he encourages improved cooperation between residents and the authorities as it could help reduce violence, while greatly boosting the morale of security personnel in the area.

There are 111 schools under Yala Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 in Yala’s provincial seat, Raman and Krong Pinang districts. Fifty-three schools in Raman district alone require higher vigilance as they are in violence-prone areas.
