BANGKOK, Sept 28 – Red Shirt activist Yossawaris Chuklom, better known for his professional name as a leading comedian, Jeng Dokjik, was released on bail by Criminal Court Friday after spending more than a month behind bars.
The high-profile critic of Thailand’s courts and justice system has been in jail after the Criminal Court revoked his original bail when he made intimidating public addresses against Constitution Court judges.
The Criminal Court said the defendant submitted a letter of apology to the Constitution Court, published his apology in Matichon and Khao Sod daily newspapers Sept 14-16, and promised to refrain from political activities and public addresses. His wife put up a Bt600,000 bond with the court.
His imprisonment for over a month is sufficient for him to feel remorseful, the court said, at the same time sternly warning him against activities that might intimidate others or instigate political unrest. He is also prohibited from leaving the country.
Jeng Dokjik served as an assistant to Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit and was a key activist of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), the Red Shirts.
