RTRDA President Santi Charoenpornpattana noted that his agency is Thailand’s primary research and development organization for rail transport technology.

A recent seminar aimed at elevating Thailand’s railway capabilities and industry focused on advances in the construction of railways in historically significant areas. The seminar was co-organized by the Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (RTRDA) and the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT).

RTRDA President Santi Charoenpornpattana noted that his agency is Thailand’s primary research and development organization for rail transport technology. The institute incorporates expertise and resources from all sectors to elevate the nation’s railway-related technological capabilities, as well as promote its railway industry.

One of the key missions of RTRDA is to develop innovations pertaining to rail transport systems while working with public and private agencies to apply its research and innovations. Santi said the RTRDA is also seeking the creation of a rail transport data bank that would enable those interested to access relevant information.

EIT President Watcharin Gasaluck elaborated that mass rapid transit lines must often be constructed through historically significant areas, such as archaeological or conservation sites. Preparations for these types of projects require special diligence and coordinated efforts. Watcharin added that engineers must determine the best ways to minimize the environmental impact of such projects.

According to the EIT president, the seminar was a good starting point for raising public awareness on this topic and will lead to the setting of standards for design and construction work in historically significant locations. (NNT)
