BANGKOK, Sept 24 – A group of 52 senators today launched a move to impeach Senate Speaker Nikom Wairachpanich on charges of dishonesty, abusing power, and breaching the code of conduct.
In a letter officially submitted to Deputy Parliament Speaker Anant Ariyachaipanich, Pornpan Bunyarattabhandu who led the group of senators said Mr Nikom’s behaviour was a violation of the Constitution and led to disunity in the national legislative body.
“His actions have violated several sections of the Constitution and Section 6 of the Senate’s parliamentary regulations. The National Anti-Corruption Commission is requested to investigate the allegations and dismiss Mr Nikom from his position if he is found guilty,” said Mrs Pornpan.
Mr Anant said he would check the legality of the petition which should be finished by October 8, adding that he personally wished senators would not become involved in conflicts as their tenure would expire in six months.
