BANGKOK, 9 September 2015 – The Cabinet has set September 30 as the final date for those who joined the first car buyer scheme to take delivery of their car.

The first car buyer tax rebate scheme, launched by the previous government, was terminated after December 31, 2012. However, a final date for taking delivery of the vehicles was not set. The Cabinet yesterday approved the Ministry of Finance’s suggested final date for the cars’ delivery – September 30 – after which potential buyers must have their vehicles delivered or they will no longer be eligible for the tax benefit.

Some 1.2 million people applied to the first car buyer scheme, and about 1.1 million have already claimed their tax rebate. The 100,000 or so remaining would-be first car buyers now have to take delivery of their vehicle by the end of the month or forfeit their right to the vehicle’s tax rebate. Any additional documents required will then have to be submitted within 90 days after the car is delivered.
