BANGKOK, Thailand – Severe flooding in Chumphon province has disrupted road and rail travel, with authorities closing both southbound and northbound lanes of Asia Highway 41. Small vehicles are unable to navigate flooded sections of the highway, prompting officials to issue travel advisories and recommend detours. Travelers heading south from Bangkok are advised to stop at rest areas or gas stations on the outskirts of Chumphon’s capital district or detour via Pathomphon Intersection toward Ranong province. Northbound travelers from Surat Thani to Bangkok are encouraged to stop at rest areas in Lang Suan district.

Travelers on Asia Highway 41 between Pathomphon Intersection and Wat Phra That Sawi are urged to make a U-turn and find safe locations nearby. Similarly, those traveling between Wat Phra That Sawi and Lang Suan Intersection should turn back or seek accommodation in Lang Suan district.

Flooding has also disrupted rail services, with tracks between Sawi and Wisai stations submerged.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has suspended several routes, including rapid and express services between Sungai Kolok, Yala, Hat Yai, and Bangkok. Train 172 has been rerouted to terminate at Surat Thani Station, while passengers from Yala can claim full refunds or board Train 447 for return journeys without additional charges. Freight services, including Train 986, have also been rerouted to terminate at Surat Thani Station.

The SRT has assured passengers full refunds for canceled services, including tickets purchased via the state welfare card. Travelers are encouraged to contact the SRT Hotline at 1690 for real-time updates and assistance as efforts to address the disruptions continue. (NNT)
