The Thai Festival in Shanghai 2024 opened its doors on Friday (May 10) at the Super Brand Mall, offering a showcase of Thai culture over the weekend. The event, one of the largest of its kind in the Chinese city, features an extensive range of Thai brands and has been organized to deepen cultural ties and friendship between Thailand and China.
Inaugurating the festival, the Consul-General of Thailand in Shanghai, Prinat Apirat, highlighted the event’s role in promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding. She also encouraged attendees to take advantage of the visa-free regime between China and Thailand to explore Thai culture firsthand.
The festival includes participation from at least ten Thai restaurants in Shanghai, which offer authentic Thai cuisine, exotic fruits such as durian, and popular Thai snacks. Visitors also have the opportunity to engage with the Thai lifestyle through traditional massages, handicrafts, and costumes.
Coinciding with Shanghai’s May 5 Shopping Festival, Zhu Weimin, vice chairman of the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association, said this year’s festival is especially significant as it comes just before the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Thailand.
The Thailand Creative Economy Agency is among several agencies participating in the event for the first time. The agency is introducing five Thai creative design brands that merge traditional Thai elements with modern innovation, enhancing cultural exchange and providing a modern perspective on Thai creative arts.
