BANGKOK, Oct 15 –Singaporean and Japanese ambassadors to Thailand met two key government figures separately to discuss relations and economic issues.
Singapore ambassador Chua Siew San paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula who supervises economic affairs at Government House today.
Mr Pridiyathorn said afterwards she inquired about economic measures of the government.
He said that it was restructuring taxes and oil prices to reduce Thailand’s high fuel consumption.
He also informed the ambassador of infrastructure projects including the double track rail projects.
Japanese ambassador Shigekazu Sato paid a courtesy call on Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda at the ministry.
The ambassador praised the minister’s role in the government and mentioned good bilateral relations.
He said about 60,000 Japanese people were living in Thailand and about 4,000 Japanese companies had invested in the country. Their investments here account for about half their overall investments.
“Japanese people feel great friendship with the Thai people and do hope that the Ministry of Interior will support and take care of them for better bilateral relations,” Mr Sato said.
The ambassador invited representatives of the Thai government including the interior minister to attend the World Conference on Disaster Prevention in Sendai next March.
