BANGKOK, Jan 28 – Protest leader Suthin Tarathin, who was murdered while disrupting an advance poll in the Bang Na area Sunday, was shot from both his left and right sides, according to an autopsy.
Niran Pitakwatchara, a member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and Pornthip Rojanasunan, forensic expert and inspector general of the Justice Ministry, said the victim’s body was taken to the Forensic Department at Ramathibodi Hospital for an autopsy at his wife’s request.
There were no bullets left in his body and it is speculated the bullets were fired on him from both sides, said Dr Niran. The NHRC will meet with the Civil and Political Rights Sub-committee tomorrow to discuss protection for people who exercise their civil rights by protesting.
Representatives of the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) and the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) will be invited for the discussion.
Dr Porntip said there were four wounds from two bullets on Suthin’s body – one from the right to left armpits and the other from the right of the neck to the left ear.
The size and type of bullets could not be determined as there were no bullets left in the body, she said.
Kanitha Duang-in, Suthin’s wife, said her husband was politically determined, and he was the family’s bread winner.
Funeral rites are being held at Wat Sommanas Woravihara.
