A small asteroid entered Earth’s atmosphere and burned up, creating a brilliant fireball visible over the Philippines’ northern sky, September 6. Fortunately, the asteroid was small enough that it posed no danger.

The bright fireball was observed in the early hours of the morning over northern parts of the Philippines. According to the European Space Agency (ESA), the asteroid, about 1 meter in diameter, entered Earth’s atmosphere near Luzon Island and completely disintegrated during its descent. It did not cause any damage on the ground. This event marks only the ninth time an asteroid has been visible to the naked eye before burning up in the atmosphere.

Earlier, on Tuesday, NASA had announced via social media platform X that the small asteroid would enter Earth’s atmosphere without causing harm. The asteroid was expected to create a fireball as it burned up in the atmosphere, producing a bright flash in the sky over the northern coast of the Philippines. The asteroid’s appearance occurred as scheduled, as predicted by NASA. (TNA)
