AYUTTHAYA, Thailand – Ayutthaya is drawing large crowds of both local and international visitors with its vibrant “Songkran Water Fun with Elephants” celebration, taking place in front of the Tourism Authority of Thailand office on Si Sanphet Road. Running through April 15, the event is part of the city’s Thai New Year festivities and offers a playful twist by including elephants in the traditional water-splashing celebrations.

More than ten elephants, decorated with colorful floral patterns inspired by the sesbania flower, the provincial emblem of Ayutthaya, interact with visitors by spraying water from their trunks. The gentle, festive water fights offer a refreshing way to cool off during the holiday’s hottest days.

Adding to the joyful atmosphere, the elephants also perform short dance routines when music plays. They sway their trunks, flap their ears, and move in rhythm, entertaining crowds and adding a cheerful energy to the event.

Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the event celebrates Ayutthaya’s unique blend of cultural charm and family-friendly fun. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city continues to draw visitors looking to experience its historical landmarks and festive Songkran traditions.

The elephant performances and water play begin daily at 11:00 a.m. and continue through April 15. As the festival enters its final days, businesses in the area are enjoying increased foot traffic, adding an economic boost to the holiday’s celebratory spirit. (NNT)
