BANGKOK, 20 December 2013 Thai Airways International Plc President Sorajak Kasemsuwan has resigned from the national carrier, citing health reasons.

During a board meeting on Friday, the management was informed of Mr Sorajak tendering his letter of resignation, which would be effective 15 days after the submission.

Thai’s senior executive vice president Chokchai Panyayong has been appointed acting President to replace Mr Sorachak, who has held the post since October 2012.

In the third quarter of this year, Thai Airways posted a heavy net loss for the second consecutive quarter of 6.53 billion baht. The company has also halved its profit target to 2 billion baht in the face of fierce competition from other airlines.
