PATTANI, May 22 – Teachers in Thailand’s insurgency-impacted southernmost provinces have called on the government to urgently install closed-circuit cameras at schools to boost security for teaching personnel and students.
Teacher representatives will officially hand over a letter to Deputy Education Minister Sermsak Pongpanich who is travelling to the South tomorrow.
They said the government has not allocated budget for closed-circuit cameras despite an earlier promise to do so.
The promise was made after southern militants attacked a school in the far South.
Boonsom Thongsriprai, leader of the Federation of Teachers in Three Southern Provinces, said after meeting with Fourth Region Army officers that military, police and provincial administrative officials promised to join forces in providing security to teachers who have been targets of insurgent attacks.
Teachers and educators were instructed to pay extra attention to their safety, he said.
