Speaker Wan Nor insists on removing Thaksin’s name from the no-confidence motion, warns against potential legal issues if not amended.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Wan Muhammad Nor Mata, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, stated that he would not include the motion for the no-confidence debate in the agenda if the opposition refuses to remove the name of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from the motion. He emphasized that the motion must comply with regulations, and if it were to be included, it could lead to potential lawsuits.

Wan Nor explained that the opposition had been urged to amend the motion by removing Thaksin’s name, as he is considered an external figure, and including his name could cause legal issues. He further clarified that if the opposition does not amend the motion, he would not place it on the agenda. The Speaker also noted that he had instructed the opposition leaders to consult on the matter and amend the motion accordingly.

The Speaker emphasized that the House must follow proper procedures to ensure order during the session and avoid any legal complications, particularly regarding the inclusion of individuals outside the scope of the debate. He also mentioned that the opposition might appeal the decision, but it is crucial to resolve this issue before the motion can be placed on the agenda for further discussion. (TNA)
