When technology evolves, there are always something new to make our lifestyles much easier, more fashionable and most of all keeping us closer to everyone we love. According to the Director of ABAC Consumer Index, Dr. Udom Hongchartkul, the recent survey has been collaborated with ABAC Poll to explore in depth the people’s purchasing behaviors in today’s technology.
The survey of over 1,600 Thais was conducted last month. The respondents were from Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Chon Buri, Nakhon Ratchasima, Udon Thani, Kalasin, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Nakhon Sawan, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phuket and Songkhla. In a month long survey, it has been found that there are more Thai households owning a mobile phone than a desktop computer, a laptop, a digital camera, a smart phone, a DSLR camera and a tablet PC respectively.
When broken down according to levels of income, 20% of respondents whose incomes are between 15,000 -35,000 THB possess smart phones. Meanwhile, 1 in every 4 of those who earn higher but less than 75,500 THB per month owns a smart phone. The number of owners is only 5% more in the income group of 75,000 THB or higher. While those who are making less than 15,000 THB account for less than 10% of the sampled population.
Surprisingly, the number of anyone possessing a tablet PC between those who earn 35,000 THB or more and those whose salaries are higher than 75,000 THB are not that different. They account for 7% of their income groups. The figures are even lower for people, who earn less than the above mentioned, which are barely above 2%.
When asked what they would purchase in the next 3 months, smart phones and tablet PCs are in high demands. The number of respondents buying smart phones and PC tablets is forecast to grow by 5% and 10% respectively.
However, a notebook tops the list of all IT items with a growing demand of 26%. In terms of gender, women are prone to buying laptops and smart phones more than men of the same age group. Older people tend to purchase a laptop while younger ones are in favor of iPads and smart phones.
