YALA, 15 July 2015 – The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has boosted South-bound train services to cater to the demand of Muslim Thais planning to celebrate Hari Raya in their home towns.

The SRT has added two more carriages to the trains heading towards southern provinces. More than 2,000 holidaymakers reportedly caught a train to the South yesterday.

Aside from increasing services, SRT authorities stepped up security measures to ensure the safety of passengers. All luggage must be checked to prevent possession of weapons. Passengers were also warned not to attend to the luggage or belongings of unknown people.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri or the fast breaking festival is one of the most important holidays for Muslims. The Sheikhul Islamd Office calls on Muslims to observe the moon on Thursday to designate this year’s Hari Raya. The festival falls on either Friday or Saturday.
