BANGKOK, Thailand – The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) reportedly implemented comprehensive measures during the New Year holiday period, from December 27, 2024, to January 2, 2025, to provide safe and efficient travel for passengers heading to their hometowns or tourist destinations. Following transport policies set by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, the SRT increased capacity and introduced special services to manage the surge in demand.
To accommodate passengers, the SRT added carriages to regular services, maximizing each locomotive’s capacity, and operated 18 special trains along the Northern, Northeastern, and Southern lines. The measures facilitated travel for 682,082 passengers during the period, with 672,680 using regular services and 9,402 relying on special trains.
Passenger data showed the Southern Line handled the largest volume, with 221,995 travelers, followed by the Northeastern Line, with 179,449 passengers, and the Northern Line, with 130,024. The Eastern Line, Mahachai Line, and Maeklong Line also played major roles in accommodating passengers across the country.
The SRT’s efficient operations ensured safe travel for passengers during one of the busiest times of the year, demonstrating its dependability in serving the public during both regular and peak travel periods. (NNT)
