BANGKOK, 17 July 2014 – Street vendors occupying the pavements along Ratchadamnoen Road have packed up their belongings in order to relocate to other areas, following the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)’s policy to improve the city landscape and reduce congestion.

July 16 was also the last day where lottery sellers on Ratchadamnoen were allowed to occupy their existing space before being evicted from the area. Some of these sellers have chosen the Government Lottery Office in Nonthaburi as a new location to sell lottery tickets.

However, certain vendors and lottery sellers have expressed disapproval of the plan. These groups of sellers have pleaded the BMA to consider waiving the requirement, claiming that they have been selling their goods in the Ratchadamnoen area for more than 30 years.
