
BANGKOK, Thailand – Ministry of Transport has ordered a temporary suspension of all electric train services, evacuating passengers from trains and stations to ensure safety. Structural inspections and system tests are underway. Meanwhile, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) continues to operate as usual to accommodate public transportation needs. Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit has instructed all relevant agencies to closely monitor the situation.
According to reports, at 1:20 PM today (March 28), a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, with tremors felt in Thailand. The transportation system has been affected, necessitating a temporary suspension of services.
Pichet Kunathammarak, Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport (DRT), has issued instructions to railway service providers, including:
Temporarily suspending train operations.
Evacuating passengers from trains and stations to ground level, ensuring they remain clear of areas where falling debris or broken glass might pose a risk.
Conducting structural inspections, electrical system checks, and signal system tests.
Remaining vigilant for potential aftershocks.
Awaiting further government announcements before resuming operations.
Bangkok Apiwat Central Station has been temporarily closed, with all passengers evacuated. The Red Line urban train, which operates on elevated tracks, has also been halted for structural inspections. Long-distance trains have been affected as well, with services such as Express Train No. 72 (Ubon Ratchathani – Bangkok Apiwat) held at Chiang Rak Station and Ordinary Train No. 207 (Bangkok – Nakhon Sawan) waiting at Bang Sue Junction.
During the earthquake, all electric trains stopped at platforms, and passengers were safely evacuated. Inspections of the main railway routes and systems are now underway.

BMTA Continues Normal Services
Kittikan Chomduang Jaruworaphonkul, Director of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), confirmed that bus services remain operational. The BMTA has arranged sufficient buses to accommodate passengers while other transport systems remain suspended.
Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit also directed the Transport Company Limited (BorKorSor) to assist passengers at major bus terminals, including Chatuchak, Pinklao, Borommaratchachonnani, Ekkamai, Rangsit, and small-scale terminals. Evacuations of passengers and staff from these stations were carried out as a precautionary measure, and passengers were informed about the situation. All interprovincial bus services have been temporarily suspended.
The Ministry of Transport has ordered electric train operators to suspend services and evacuate passengers to safety.
