BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas across Thailand, including the North, Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions, as well as Bangkok and its surrounding provinces. The southern region will also experience heavy rains in some areas.
Residents in these regions are advised to be cautious of potential dangers, including flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in mountainous areas, near waterways, and low-lying regions. This weather event is caused by a strong low-pressure system, which weakened from Tropical Depression “Soulik” and is now covering the upper northeastern and lower northern parts of Thailand. The situation is further exacerbated by a strong southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, the South, the East, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are experiencing strong winds, with waves reaching heights of 2-3 meters, and in areas with thunderstorms, waves can exceed 3 meters. In the lower Gulf of Thailand, waves are about 2 meters high, with higher waves in stormy areas and offshore. Mariners are urged to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in stormy weather, while smaller boats in the Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand should refrain from leaving the shore at this time.
