Chaos at Pathumwan Mall: Student brawl leaves five injured, police tighten security

BANGKOK, Thailand – A violent clash between students from two rival technical institutes broke out at MBK shopping mall in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district last night, causing panic among shoppers who fled in chaos. Authorities managed to apprehend four suspects from both sides, while initial reports confirm five injuries.

According to police reports from the Pathumwan Police Station, two of the injured individuals sustained serious stab wounds and are currently being treated in the ICU at the Police General Hospital. The remaining three suffered minor injuries from physical altercations but were not harmed by weapons. Fortunately, no bystanders were hurt in the incident.

Police have detained two students from each group, totaling four individuals, who claimed they encountered each other by chance at the mall, leading to an argument and subsequent brawl, as captured in video footage. However, upon searching the suspects, officers found no knives or firearms, and there is no concrete evidence linking them to the stabbing victims. As a result, the four individuals were charged with “public affray” under Section 391 of the Penal Code, a minor offense, and were fined before being released.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify additional suspects, particularly those responsible for the stabbing. It is believed that each group had at least ten members involved in the fight. If further evidence emerges linking any of the four released suspects to the stabbing, additional charges will be filed against them.

Meanwhile, representatives from the shopping mall and its stores have yet to file any legal complaints. Police have also dispelled rumors of gunfire during the altercation, confirming that no such incident occurred.

In response to the incident, authorities are working with the mall’s security team to strengthen safety measures, including stricter checks for weapons at entry points. Police patrols in the area will also be intensified to prevent future clashes.

Mall management has yet to take legal action against the students involved but has instructed security personnel to coordinate with Pathumwan Police Station on preventive measures. Officials assure the public that efforts are underway to enhance security and prevent similar incidents from occurring again. (TNA)
