KAMPHAENG PHET, Thailand – A rare and mesmerizing scene unfolded at Khlong Lan Waterfall as heavy rainfall on the mountain led to a powerful surge of red, murky water cascading down the falls. The mist from the waterfall blanketed the entire valley, creating an awe-inspiring view. However, swimming is prohibited due to the dangerous conditions, though the park remains open for visitors.

The continuous downpour, particularly in the Khlong Lan district of Kamphaeng Phet, caused water from the mountain to flood into Khlong Lan Waterfall, one of the region’s most famous tourist attractions. Typically, the waterfall draws visitors year-round, especially on weekends when the area is packed with tourists.

On the evening of October 22, after tourists shared posts on social media about the waterfall’s unusual strength, authorities visited the site to confirm the situation. Upon arrival, they found that the parking area was full, with tourists coming and going. The mist from the waterfall filled the air, soaking visitors as they walked. The loud roar of the waterfall could be heard from afar, while the stream below flowed rapidly with murky red water. No one dared to enter the water due to the risk, but those leaving the site were drenched from the mist, as if they had gone for a swim.

As visitors made their way along the bridge towards the waterfall, they were greeted by a breathtaking sight. The mist, reminiscent of fine rain, was created by the force of the water crashing into the pool below, sending sprays of water high into the trees. The mist swirled gracefully in the wind, adding to the spectacle of the roaring waterfall.

Normally, the water splits into two streams as it cascades down the cliff. However, during this period of heavy rainfall, the water merges into a single, powerful flow, creating a rare and magnificent display that only occurs once in a while. Despite the intense conditions, Khlong Lan National Park remains open for visitors to enjoy the beauty of the waterfall.

A park security officer noted that the waterfall’s intensity surged on the morning of October 22 due to heavy rains on the mountain. While the situation has stabilized, if further rain falls, authorities will reassess. Visitors are still welcome to explore the park, but swimming in the stream is strictly prohibited for safety reasons.
