CHIANG RAI, March 31 – A summer storm destroyed more than 1,400 houses and 11 high voltage electric poles in this northern province.
Officials of the provincial electricity authority repaired the damaged poles after half-hour storm felled trees onto power lines and damaged high voltage electric poles Saturday evening. The repairs are expected to be completed by Sunday.
Deputy Chiang Rai governor Phiphat Aekpaphan and Narong Inso, head of the disaster prevention and mitigation office in Chiang Rai gave 30,000 Baht to Sitthisak Nuansook, who was injured and whose house was completely damaged.
The deputy governor said a total of 1,414 houses in eight districts were damaged, as well as several schools and temples. Local authorities, soldiers and volunteers will help repair damaged homes and expect to be finished in three days
