BANGKOK, Aug 15 — Surachai Liengboonlertchai, National Legislative Assembly (NLA) vice president-elect said today that the next NLA meeting should take place Monday and that the assembly could then elect the new prime minister on either next Thursday or Friday.
Mr Surachai expressed support for the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) requirement that Assembly members declare their assets and liabilities.
The NLA will check others, so it must be ready for examination by others, Mr Surachai said.
“The Senate secretariat ask the NACC secretary-general to send staff to present details to the NLA next week. Early in September, officials will receive documents. Members should not be worried about the ban against stakeholding in state enterprises or state concessionaires because it concerns [only] the cabinet,” Mr Surachai said.
He plans to reschedule the NLA’s timetable with Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, NLA president-elect. Mr Surachai said the Assembly should conduct its first reading of the 2015 budget bill on Monday.
Then its regulation-drafting committee would finish NLA regulations in a few days and the Assembly could convene on Thursday and Friday to elect the prime minister. The prime minister would form the cabinet within September.
In the NLA regulation draft, the process of electing a prime minister was based on relevant details in the 2007 constitution, Mr Surachai said.
