Surapong told U.N. Thai people are government’s priority

BANGKOK, 28 September 2011 -Foreign Minister Mr. Surapong Tovichakchaikul spoke before the global community at the 66th United Nations General Assembly that Thai people were the center of the Thai government, and that the Thai foreign policy focused on strengthening the relationship with its neighboring countries ahead of the formation of ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.

In his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, the Foreign Minister also said that the economic prosperity of Thailand came from Thai people. He added that the government gave full support to building national unity and restoring reconciliation.

Mr. Surapong emphasized that the sustainable development in the country was important and His Majesty the King’s sufficiency philosophy was what the government had been adhering to. In terms of foreign policy, the Thai government will give priority to building respect and trust with its neighboring countries, according to Mr. Surapong.
